Module 3 Practice: Prompt-to-Portfolio — Creating a Multi-Format Content Piece with ChatGPT

Complete During Live Class

This is a guided, hands-on activity that we will complete together during our live class session. You do not need to complete anything ahead of time, and there is no written submission required.

During class, you will experiment with prompts in ChatGPT, compare and refine AI-generated responses, repurpose content into different formats, and discuss your observations with the class.

Guidelines

Purpose:
Effective AI content creation begins with clear instructions and improves through experimentation and refinement. During our live class session, you will compare a vague prompt with a more intentionally designed prompt, use ChatGPT to generate and refine content, and adapt that content into additional formats. We will work through the process together so you can see how changes to a prompt influence AI-generated results in real time. The goal is to practice structured prompting, iterative refinement, audience awareness, and human review rather than simply accepting the first AI-generated response.

🛠️ What You’ll Need:

Access to ChatGPT.
A topic related to your personal, professional, educational, or creative interests.
One prompting framework introduced in Module 3, such as Role–Task–Context, R-A-C-E, or C-A-R-E.
Access to the Module 3 lecture and prompt examples for reference during class.

✅ Live Class Activity:

During class, we will move through the following steps together. You will have time to experiment with your prompts, review the results, make changes, and ask questions as we work through the activity.

Choose a topic. Select one topic that could realistically be used for a content-creation project, such as an event, product, service, educational resource, campaign, travel guide, or professional topic.
Create a vague prompt. Begin with a short, general request that provides very little context. Generate a response in ChatGPT so you have a starting point for comparison.
Improve the prompt. Use one of the structured prompting methods introduced in Module 3. Add relevant information about the task, context, audience, purpose, format, tone, constraints, or expected result.
Generate and compare the results. Enter the improved prompt into ChatGPT and compare the response with the result produced by your original vague prompt. Consider what changed and why.
Refine the response. Experiment with follow-up prompts to improve the content. You may:
- adjust the tone or level of formality
- clarify the intended audience
- request a different structure or format
- add or remove details
- provide an example or additional context
- ask for alternative versions of a section
Repurpose the refined content. Use ChatGPT to adapt the final piece into two additional formats, such as:
- social media content
- an email or newsletter introduction
- a short video or podcast script
- an infographic outline
- a brief promotional announcement
Participate in the class reflection and discussion. We will discuss the activity together during class. Be prepared to share your observations about:
- how the improved prompt affected the quality of the response
- which refinement technique was most useful
- what changed when the content was adapted for different formats
- what required the most human judgment or revision

💡 Tips for Success:

Experiment. Your first prompt does not need to be perfect.
Do not stop after the first AI-generated response.
Ask questions during class if you are unsure how to improve a prompt or response.
Give ChatGPT enough context to understand the audience and purpose.
Use constraints such as length, format, tone, or platform when they help produce a stronger result.
Compare the vague prompt with the improved prompt and pay attention to how the output changes.
Preserve the central message when adapting content to another format.
Review AI-generated information for accuracy.
Use your own judgment when deciding what should be kept, revised, removed, or regenerated.
